a sea

“And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19, The Message

Last night a bible study Matt, yet again, gave a powerful and challenging teaching on ephesians 3. when we got to the portion of the text that talks about believers being firmly rooted and grounded in God’s love, it was a nice little saying that i’d heard and read many times over.

matt explained those words in a way that i’d never thought of before. he likened our state in God’s love to being completely immersed in an ocean. that which ever way we were to move or reach, if at the depth of the ocean we would be completely immersed in it and by it.

i think it hit home to a lot of us last night. the truth that no matter what i do, no matter the passing circumstances or challenges, the fact that i am engulfed by the love of God does not change and cannot be changed. who am i to fight the currents of love from God and live as if i am on dry land, alone.

check out a song that refers to this by John Mark Millan called “how he loves us.” this is a song i randomly heard during rez weekand a great line in the song goes like this:

We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
So Heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss,
And the heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets

so let’s live recognizing and reflecting that we are immersed in God’s love.
